Confidentiality

Creating a safe and trusting coaching relationship is incredibly important to me. What you share during our coaching sessions will be treated respectfully and held in confidence.

The only exceptions are where I have a legal or professional duty to disclose information - for example, if there is a serious concern about your safety or the safety of someone else, or where you have given your written permission for information to be shared.

To protect that sense of safety, sessions are not to be recorded by either of us.

Any personal information collected during our work together will be managed in line with UK data protection law and my Privacy Policy outlined below.

Before, during, and after sessions

The following are things to expect or consider - before, during and after our coaching sessions.

Before

I hope you’ll feel as relaxed as possible for our sessions so grab a cup of something and a glass of water. Have snacks nearby if you like. Find somewhere comfortable and private, where you can speak candidly and privately.

During

If we lose connection during our session I will call you back - if we can’t regain connection, don’t worry - I will credit the lost time to your next session, or if there’s still time, tag it on to our current session.

Part of my role throughout our coaching relationship is to help you develop even greater self-awareness. I may challenge you — with kindness — at points, for example if I notice patterns of limiting beliefs. Any challenge or observation comes from a well-intentioned place, offered in service of your growth. If at any point you're feeling particularly raw, I'll be extra sensitive to that. Some days we feel robust; other days it helps to be treated with great gentleness. Feel free to let me know how you're feeling, and how you'd like to be challenged on any given day.

After

Coaching is an active process — at the end of each session, you'll ideally come away with a clear action or set of actions (chosen by you!) to work on. I'm committed to your progress, but real change in your life depends on you carrying those steps out between sessions. If you find yourself struggling to follow through, that's useful information, not failure — we'll revisit the goal together and recalibrate it into something that feels more achievable and sustainable for you.

What coaching is, and isn’t

The coaching process focuses on identifying where you’d like to be and how to get there, rather than where you’ve just come from. However, it isn't about pretending the past didn't happen - your experiences matter, and we'll honour them and build on them. The difference is that coaching helps you understand where you are now, where you'd like to go, and how you can begin moving towards that future.

If you're experiencing overwhelming grief, trauma or emotional distress, therapy or counselling may be the most appropriate support at this stage. If, however, you've reached a point where you're ready to begin looking forwards but aren't sure which direction to head, coaching can help create clarity, confidence and forward momentum. Coaching can also take place alongside any therapy or treatment you’re engaged with - but it must feel right for you.

Coaching does not replace professional medical, psychological, financial or legal advice.

My commitment to you

If, at any stage, I believe coaching is no longer the most appropriate form of support for you, I'll discuss this with you openly and honestly. This might include recommending that you pause coaching or seek support from another appropriately qualified professional before continuing. My priority is to act in your best interests.

Shared responsibility

Coaching is a partnership. While I will bring my full attention, experience and commitment to our work together, meaningful change depends upon your willingness to engage with the process, reflect honestly and take action between sessions. You remain responsible for the decisions you make during and after coaching, and for any actions you choose to take (or not take) as a result of our conversations.

Although I cannot guarantee specific outcomes, I will support and challenge you throughout the process, creating a space where meaningful and lasting change has the opportunity to grow.

Cancellations and changes

These policies are included here to help create a clear foundation, and so you can raise any questions with me - in order that we can then focus our time and energy on what matters most: your coaching journey.

Booking and payment

Payment is required before your first coaching session unless we've agreed an instalment plan in advance.

Rescheduling a session and late arrivals

Life happens. If you need to rearrange a coaching session, please give at least 48 hours' notice wherever possible. I'll always do my best to find another suitable appointment. Sessions repeatedly rearranged with less than 48 hours' notice may be charged in full, and/or I may recommend pausing coaching until you’re in a position to commit to the process. In the event of a late arrival the session will end at the agreed time.

If I need to reschedule

Very occasionally I may need to rearrange a session due to illness or unforeseen circumstances. If this happens, I'll let you know as soon as possible and we'll arrange another mutually convenient time. You won't lose a session because of my cancellation.

Ending coaching early

You're under no obligation to complete your coaching package.

If you decide you'd like to finish coaching before all sessions have been used, please let me know. Any coaching sessions that have already taken place remain chargeable. Any unused sessions that have already been paid for will be refunded, less the cost of sessions already completed.

Once all sessions in a package have taken place, no refund is due.

Code of Ethics

The Code of Ethics that underpins my work reflects the professional standards and ethical principles that have shaped my approach to coaching. It draws on my MSc in Behaviour Change from the University of Derby, my Life Coaching Diploma with The Coaching Academy, and the ethical principles promoted by the Association for Coaching.

I am committed to providing coaching that is ethical, respectful, evidence-informed and centred on the wellbeing, dignity and autonomy of every client. I maintain these standards through ongoing professional development, reflective practice and professional supervision, ensuring my practice continues to develop alongside current evidence and best practice.

Respect for Every Individual

Every client will be treated with dignity, compassion and respect, regardless of their age, gender, ethnicity, disability, religion, sexual orientation, socioeconomic background or life experiences.

I believe every individual has capacity for growth and meaningful change. I seek to create a coaching environment that feels calm, psychologically safe and welcoming, where clients can reflect honestly, reconnect with what matters and move forward with confidence.

Client Autonomy

Coaching is a collaborative partnership.

My role is not to tell clients what to do or make decisions on their behalf, but to support them in developing greater clarity, confidence and self-direction.

Clients remain responsible for the decisions they make and the actions they choose to take.

Professional Integrity

I will act honestly, transparently and with integrity in all aspects of my work. I will represent my qualifications, experience and services accurately, and will never knowingly mislead clients or make unrealistic promises about coaching outcomes.

Confidentiality

Everything discussed within coaching will remain confidential unless:

  • the client provides informed written consent for information to be shared;

  • I am required to disclose information by law; or

  • I believe there is a serious risk of harm to the client or another person, in which case appropriate safeguarding action may be necessary.

Where possible and appropriate, I will seek to discuss any disclosure with the client beforehand.

Client information will be handled in accordance with applicable data protection legislation.

Professional Boundaries

I will maintain appropriate professional boundaries throughout the coaching relationship.

I will avoid relationships or situations that may create conflicts of interest or impair my professional judgement.

Where coaching is no longer the most appropriate form of support, I will discuss alternative options with the client and, where appropriate, signpost them to other professionals or services.

Competence

I will work only within the limits of my knowledge, skills and professional competence.

Where a client's needs fall outside the scope of coaching, I will explain this openly and support them in accessing more appropriate services where possible.

I will not provide medical, legal, financial or other specialist advice beyond my professional competence.

Evidence-Informed Practice

My coaching integrates evidence-informed approaches, including principles from behaviour change science. While research informs my coaching, it never replaces curiosity about the unique person sitting in front of me. Coaching is always tailored collaboratively to the individual rather than applying predetermined solutions.

Client Wellbeing

The wellbeing of my clients remains central throughout the coaching relationship.

If I become concerned that a client's wellbeing may be at serious risk, I will respond appropriately, which may include encouraging the client to access additional support or taking safeguarding action where necessary.

Coaching is not a substitute for therapy, counselling or medical treatment.

Continuous Professional Development

I recognise that effective coaching requires continual learning.

I am committed to maintaining and developing my professional competence through ongoing education, reflective practice, supervision and engagement with current research and best practice.

Reflective Practice and Supervision

I regularly reflect on my coaching practice to ensure I continue to work ethically and effectively.

Where appropriate, I engage in professional supervision to support ethical decision-making, maintain professional standards and continue developing as a coach.

Any discussion within supervision will protect client anonymity wherever possible.

Accountability

I take responsibility for maintaining high professional standards.

Should an ethical concern arise, I will address it openly, honestly and in accordance with my professional obligations.

My Commitment

My aim is to create a coaching relationship built on trust, respect and partnership.

I will always seek to act in the best interests of my clients while recognising that lasting change is achieved not by giving answers, but by helping people develop the confidence, clarity and capability to create their own.

This Code of Ethics is reviewed regularly to ensure it continues to reflect current professional standards, legislation and best practice.

Using this information benefits both my clients and my coaching practice.
